When I say that I love you I mean just that. It is YOU that I love. Not a part of you, not just the laughs and smiles, not just the good time. I love you.
I will love you through all the bad decisions, through all the tears and uncertainty. I will feel great joy and deep sorrow and, in these things, I will love you. I will be incredibly proud of you sometimes, and very disappointed other times, and through all of this I love you. There will be moments when I will feel like I live in your mind swimming through your thoughts and everything falls into place and makes sense, and there will be moments where you are like a stranger to me, shaving off only a portion of the truth, holding onto your full honesty for one reason or another…and in this I love you.
To be loved isn’t scary, it shouldn’t be full of fear. Love is a gift given, not something that has to be returned. It shouldn’t be offensive or full of expectations; it’s courage and bravery. It’s as little as saying the words, simple little powerful words. It’s sitting in your suffering with you when you allow just to be there. It’s as much as sacrificing for you, in whatever way I can sacrifice. It isn’t choosing the action over the person; it’s choosing the person despite the action and knowing the difference.
There will be days when I feel like I’ve failed, at supporting you, at being there for you, at loving you. In my weakest moments when I’m full of doubt in myself, when I question if I’m enough…even than; I love you.
When I walk away, because I know that my love isn’t what you want right now, when it seems like I’ve turned my back on you. Please know that I love you and I am always here for you.
This quote hits so true, so often…
“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.” – Moulin Rouge
Keep smiling, you’re worth it!
